About Debt Zen

Debt Zen was started in March 2025 by Timothy Cochran, a small business owner and entrepreneur who knows firsthand how stressful it can be to manage both personal and business debt at the same time.

Over the years Timothy has built and operated several ecommerce businesses. Some of those brands became successful and well known within their communities. Others never gained traction and quietly faded away. Like many entrepreneurs, he experienced both wins and setbacks while navigating the realities of credit, loans, and the financial risks that often come with building something new.

Entrepreneurship almost always requires taking financial risks. Many business owners rely on credit cards, loans, and other financial tools to get started or grow. When things go well those tools can accelerate growth. When things do not go as planned, they can quickly become a major source of stress.

Debt Zen was created after Timothy experienced that pressure firsthand while running his own businesses and managing both personal and business obligations at the same time.

Why Most Financial Tools Fall Short

Many financial apps focus heavily on credit scores, rigid budgets, or simple debt calculators. While credit scores can be useful in certain situations, they often do not tell the full story of someone's financial health.

Watching a score move up or down can also create unnecessary stress, especially for people who are actively working through debt.

Debt Zen takes a different approach. Instead of focusing on a number, we focus on tools that help people understand their real financial picture, organize their debt, and make practical decisions about what to do next.

Everyone's financial situation is different. Some people have stable paychecks while others experience income that fluctuates month to month. Debt Zen was created to focus less on credit score pressure and more on helping people understand where they truly stand and what realistic actions they can take next.

Why Traditional Debt Advice Can Feel Frustrating

Many debt and money management apps rely on simple formulas that generate suggestions like "Pay an extra $400 toward this balance and you will pay it off sooner."

While those calculations may be technically correct, they often ignore the most important question. Where is that extra money supposed to come from?

For people who are already stretched thin, those types of suggestions can feel discouraging rather than helpful. Being told to simply pay more does not create a real path forward when the money is not there to begin with.

Debt Zen focuses on clarity first. By helping people understand their full financial picture, users can begin making decisions that are realistic for their situation instead of feeling pressured by generic recommendations.

Our Philosophy

Find Your Financial Zen And Your Credit Score Will Naturally Follow

Our Approach

Debt Zen is designed to reduce financial stress by helping people clearly see their financial situation without judgment or unrealistic expectations.

Instead of focusing on credit score pressure or rigid budgeting rules, Debt Zen focuses on clarity, organization, and practical next steps. The goal is to help users understand where they are today so they can make decisions that move them forward.

Many financial tools jump quickly to extreme recommendations such as taking on new loans, consolidating debt into new products, or suggesting bankruptcy as a one size fits all solution. Debt Zen takes a different approach.

We believe the first step is understanding the full picture. What is coming in. What is going out. What obligations exist. And what basic needs must be protected first, such as housing, food, transportation, and other essential expenses that help keep daily life stable and stress levels manageable.

From there, Debt Zen focuses on helping people organize their finances and explore realistic paths forward based on their actual situation.

Progress does not always mean paying off debt as fast as possible. Sometimes progress means stabilizing finances, protecting essential needs, reducing pressure, and creating a plan that feels sustainable.

Debt Zen is built to support people wherever they are in their financial journey.

More Than a Debt Calculator

Debt Zen is designed to provide guidance, clarity, and tools that help reduce stress while helping people make informed decisions about their finances. It's not about judgment or pressure. It's about seeing the full picture and finding a path forward.

Our Mission

The mission of Debt Zen is simple: help people regain control of their financial picture, understand their options, and move forward with greater confidence and peace of mind.

The first version of the platform launched in June 2025, and we're continuing to build tools that meet people where they are, not where traditional finance says they should be.
